Erupt DM review: what it actually does
The feature you’ll notice first is the floating ball. Most download managers want their window open; Erupt DM parks a small glass sphere on top of your desktop that shows live speed and progress, and you can drop a link or an image onto it to start a download. If you game or watch films full screen while something large comes down, that’s genuinely useful. Erupt advertises up to 10x faster downloads, which is best read as a ceiling. Download managers gain speed by opening several connections to the server at once, so results depend on the server, and nothing gets you past your own line speed. The real open question is maturity. Erupt DM is a young product, and its Firefox extension had one rating and no written reviews at the time of writing.
