How well does Nessus Professional work?
What you are paying for here is coverage and accuracy, not a pretty dashboard. Tenable Nessus Professional puts the check library at 319,000+ plugins with 100+ added weekly, and the 450+ prebuilt templates do most of the thinking: pick a CIS benchmark or a PCI DSS audit and you get a usable report without writing policy from scratch. Live Results is the feature that quietly earns its keep, because it re-evaluates your stored scan data against every new plugin batch and flags likely exposures before you spend an evening rescanning.

Key features
- Unlimited IP scanning from one licensed scanner, with no per-asset counting and no overage bill
- 450+ prebuilt policy and compliance templates covering CIS benchmarks, PCI DSS, NIST and FDCC
- Live Results, which re-checks stored scan data against each plugin update so you see likely exposures without launching a new scan
- Risk scoring with CVSS v4, EPSS and Tenable VPR, so you triage by real-world exploitability instead of working down a flat critical list
- Deployment on Windows, macOS, 15+ Linux distributions, Raspberry Pi 4 and Docker

Questions people ask about Nessus Professional
Is the 3-year licence actually cheaper?
Yes, but by less than the “Save” label suggests. Three years at $13,637.54 works out to $4,545.85 a year against $4,790 bought annually, a 5.1% saving. Two years saves 2.6%. Both are smaller than the 10% this code gives you on any single term.
Does Nessus Professional include web application scanning?
No, according to the Tenable Nessus 10.12 licensing table, which lists DAST web application scanning and external attack surface scanning as Expert-only. Tenable’s Nessus family page contradicts this and shows both under Professional. Confirm with Tenable before buying if you need them.
Can I get a refund if I buy the wrong term?
Tenable does not publish a money-back window for Nessus Professional. Refunds on store orders are requested by emailing ecommerce@tenable.com with your order reference number, and Tenable says they are typically processed within 7 business days.
Does the subscription auto-renew?
Yes, and you can switch it off yourself. Sign in at community.tenable.com, open “My Products” in the top right, and you will find options to turn auto-renewal on or off, update your payment method and review renewal pricing.
How many machines can one activation code run on?
One at a time. You can transfer the code to a different system, and that system becomes the active instance, but older instances stop receiving plugin updates and show a feed access error.
Is there a free trial before I pay?
Yes, a 7-day Nessus Professional trial. It is the full feature set including compliance checks, SCADA plugins and exportable reports, but it caps you at 32 IPs per scan. Paid licences remove that cap entirely.
I already own Professional. Can I move to Expert?
Yes, and it is pro-rated. Sign in to your Tenable account, find the licence, and if more than 90 days remain you will see an “Upgrade to Nessus Expert” link that charges only for the remaining term. Inside 90 days you renew and upgrade in the same checkout.
