WATCH OUT THIS IS BADWARE AT BEST SPYWARE/MALWARE at worst… on installation after exiting the installer with the option to run the program deselected it launches without permission a program called meventagent.exe that is persistent and bypasses all standard end task methods and switches to stealth mode and makes an infinite number of outbound IPv4 and IPv6 https connections to multiple servers… if you have the default windows firewall rules it will succeed in making those connections without you knowing and transmitting unknown information to the 3rd party servers. The main program does exactly the same if you re-login and rename the rogue executable so it cannot start both processes continue even after closing the program. I have reported the site and the installer as potential malware to both smartscreen and google safe browsing service I recommend everyone give this a WIDE berth and don’t risk your systems data and hardware.
Hi TK,
Thank you for sharing your concerns. We would like to clarify that Magic Data Recovery is legitimate software and does not contain spyware or malware.
The process you mentioned, meventagent.exe, is a legitimate component of Magic Data Recovery. It is designed to record certain in-app operation events and usage steps to help us understand how users interact with the software and improve the overall product experience.
This component does not collect personal data, access your private files, or transmit the contents of your recovered data. Its purpose is limited to product usage analysis and experience improvement.
Regarding your observations about background activity and outbound network connections, we take these concerns seriously. We will review the reported behavior to ensure that the component operates as intended and does not cause unnecessary background activity.
We understand that users expect transparency and control over software running on their computers, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
If you would like us to investigate your specific case further, please contact our support team with your software version and relevant details.
Best regards,
Amagicsoft Support Team
You have no right to record usage events to the installed drive which you have not obtained permission for let alone secretly transmit it via the internet without permission and think about it ANY writes you make to the drive it’s installed on lessens the probability that deleted data will be recoverable in the future and of course it is undesirable in these days of low endurance QLC and worse SSD drive technology! There is NO possibility of you investigating the experience I had specifically as I blocked the disallowed communications and as proof of concept I disabled the event logging and ultimately erased all traces of your badly designed and implemented data recovery program… data recovery is not magic it is pure science, predictable and should not need any event logging to function properly/optimally. Only beta software has a legitimate need for usage and error logging. This is sold as stable release commercial program so should not have beta debugging logging enabled by default and require aggressive actions by the uninformed end user to protect their privacy and unrecovered deleted data.
