I use Windows 7 on legacy BIG BOX computers that have gargantuan hard drives for storage and network access, because, hey, they’ve been around since forever, and they still work.

Windows 11 arrives on new laptops, but there’s no way to attach BIG DRIVES internally.

Fast USB docks cost $30US or more, compared to free already-existing faster SATA sockets in big box tower computers, so internally as SATA is where I prefer to install new big storage drives – will big fans keeping them cool.

I’m administrator-level on my computers, and tend to right-click any program and select [ Run as Administrator ] anyway.

I hear that [ Administrator ] privileges are different on newer versions of Windows, intended for maintenance, not user functions.

I resolved the installer issue by running the programs left over in the \Temp directory, so not a ‘real’ problem there for me – workarounds are probably more used than direct attempts at so many things.

When I could not export the recovered files to a network drive by browsing the network, mapping a network drive to a local drive letter, or mklink to a network drive, I then plugged in a local USB drive to extract recovered files, and found additional problems:

So now I have to de-dupe and re-import images into their original directories by date using Picasa, for example, and run scripts through Advanced Renamer, 1-4a renamer, and the like to re-recognize as much of the file contents as possible, and bring that out to the filename.

Recovery is a mess.

But I expect AISeeSoft to have different, clever, solutions, something to differentiate their offering.

I was hoping the “AI” in AISeeSoft meant they might be smarter about the types of damages needing recovery, but no, it’s just a low-level file search and recover program, no ‘smarts’, no ‘Artificiaal Intelligence’.

I’m now trying QILING Deep Data Recovery, which promises recovering to a network mapped drive ( it’s browse network fails ! ), and it promises original directories and filenames, but many files appear corrupt, with no usable contents.

So I will try any number of other recovery programs, including the age-old ZAR Zero Assumption Recovery, and keep exploring.

I bought spare 18 TB drives to use to clone the crashed ( software data corruption crash, not mechanical crash ) 18 TB drives, so it’s a long slog from end to end – days go by before I see results, and when electricity flickers, I have to restart because so far, none of these programs:

– IMMEDIATELY start exporting found files
– keep a live DATABASE of progress so they can pick up where they left off

So, those are some goals, AISeeSoft:

– recover original directory names
– recover original filenames
– immediately copy out found files as they are found
– to any location, including network, maybe even the cloud
. . . ( sell us cloud storage if you want )
– restart where we left off if we get interrupted by anything, especially flickering electricity

– additionally, I suggest file REPAIR so DOCs, JPGs, and so on can be automatically checked for readability and automatically fixed and reconstructed to at least reveal whatever contents have been recovered, even if partial – half a picture or half a document is better than nothing.

– And connect us to AI at your home servers to enhance the program’s savvy at figuring our our specific crashes.

You put AI in your name, so now put AI in your programs.
